MEI will be closed to staff and students for all activities on Monday, September 19th, 2022 to observe the national day of mourning in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Queen Elizabeth II passed away on September 8th, 2022 at the age of 96 and following more than 70 years of reign, the longest of any British monarch and the longest recorded of any female monarch in history. She was Canada’s Head of State.
According to the Deputy Minister of Education, the province of British Columbia is following the lead of the federal government and joining other provinces in observing the national day of mourning to commemorate the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. All K - 12 public schools, post-secondary institutions, and most Crown corporations will be closed. Additionally, our mayor has announced that the City of Abbotsford’s facilities will be closed and the scheduled council meeting cancelled.
Let us pray for the Royal Family, the people of the United Kingdom, and the 14 other sovereign nations under her reign during this time of mourning.
