The MEI Calling

MEI Schools are approaching our 75th year of existence.  Someone had a God-anointed vision for a Christian school that continues today.

In 2018 we find ourselves surrounded by public schools that are working hard to provide a solid education for all students.  Personally, I worked as a teacher and administrator in the Abbotsford School District for 20 years after completing my undergrad at Simon Fraser University and my masters degree at San Diego State University.  Our colleagues in Abbotsford are doing excellent work and are considered leaders in educational innovation in British Columbia, Canada, and into areas of the world.

So what makes MEI unique?
Why would one choose to send their child to MEI when there are great options for public education all around us?

Our 3-year strategic plan indicates that we are committed to providing an Outstanding Learning Environment for All.  This includes inquiry and assessment best practice and a focus on student voice and engagement.  We are also committed to being an Exemplary Organization. We have been developing systems and processes to guide our decision-making and will create health throughout with a focus on doing what is best for kids in all our strategic moves.  We will intentionally work towards providing competitive compensation and attractive work conditions to all of our employees; we want to attract and retain the best staff for our students!  So far, we sound like a lot of other schools and organizations, but we absolutely will not compromise on these two direction statements.

Our distinctive rests in the following three statements:
1. We will operate with an unwavering commitment to Jesus Christ
2. We will function from a position of being unashamedly anchored in the Word of God, the Bible
3. We are dedicated to preparing the next generation of Christian leaders to serve in an everchanging world

So it’s a calling to be on the MEI team
Regardless of the position held: parent, student, custodian, teacher, educational assistant, head of schools, bus driver, principal, pac president, manager, grounds keeper, board member, secretary, crossing guard....  it’s a calling!

This calling rests in two areas:
1. A passion for Jesus
2. A passion for kids

This school’s purpose is not to provide employment to Christians, but to provide passionate followers of Jesus Christ with the opportunity to serve the mission of MEI Schools, something that our teams are working hard to align with the mission given to us by Jesus himself:  GO!... and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you... (Matthew‬ ‭28:19-20‬).  We have the privilege of serving God everyday in an overtly God-honouring environment with unprecedented support; an absolute foreign concept in most work environments today.

This is our distinctive.  This is our calling.  When we hire, we will seek out and trust God to bring to us people who love Jesus and love kids.  As we grow, we will strive to grow with a humble heart in our love for Jesus and our love for the children He has placed in our care.

So the question I put forward is this:
Are you called to be a part of this MEI community for the coming season of work and ministry?
Will you choose to look forward as we follow God’s leading?  Will you commit to trusting our leadership while offering honest feedback through the appropriate channels?  Will you view your role at MEI as a mission and calling given to you by God?

We can’t do it without you! Are you with us?! It’s time to have some tons-of-fun times together... are you in?! God is with us. He is leading us. Let’s fix our eyes on Jesus and walk closely with Him. Friends, this is only the beginning of what God will do in our midst and beyond!!!

In His love & service,

Vijay Manuel
Head of MEI Schools
