We all deserve to be cancelled.
If the criteria to be cancelled is having done something in the past that is now seen as wrong, hurtful, or evil, then we all qualify. The Bible calls these wrongs sin, and we are all guilty of them (Romans 3:22-24). The sin that each of us carries is so significant, it is worthy of death, and cancels us from knowing or even being in the presence of God (Romans 6:23). It’s not that some sin is more or less effective in separating us from God, but rather, any sin causes us to miss the mark of God’s standard of perfection; we are all worthy of being cancelled in this world and separated from God.
This is where Jesus comes in. God made a way for us to be un-cancelled through Jesus because He paid the price for our un-cancellation by taking our sin upon Himself, dying a horrible death on the cross, and providing healing for our souls. He offers to each of us life to the full, rich with purpose and meaning, and with the gift of renewed fellowship with our Heavenly Father (1 Peter 2:24, John 10:10).
People these days, it seems, love to point the finger at each other. Perhaps it is human nature to do so, all the while ignoring their own depravity due to the wrongs, hurts, and evil that they have themselves been the cause of:
“Look at what you did!”
“Look at how bad you are!”
“Look at your sin!”
“Look at how bad you are!”
“Look at your sin!”
“You are cancelled!”
Of course there may be earthly consequences for our sin, and these must be met, but what about the state of the individual’s soul? Are they forever to be identified by the regrettable mistakes of the past?

Jesus is the Way to redemption.
All we need to do is come to Him, acknowledge Him as Lord, confess our sins, turn from our evil ways, and follow Him (Romans 10:9). We can rest in the knowledge that He will forgive us of our sins and purify us from all the things that are not right in His eyes (1 John 1:9). He will give us a clean slate, a fresh start that is free from the guilt of our past, and into newness of life (Romans 6:4).
Followers of Christ, instead of reading about, revelling in, and celebrating the cancelling of celebrities, neighbours, and friends, let us remember that “we all, like sheep, have gone astray…” (Isaiah 53:6)…

…found us, loved us, and died on the cross paying the price for our sins. He rose to life, defeated death, and made a way for us to be un-cancelled. Indeed, He made a way for us to be able to shed our old selves, to put on the new self through His blood on the cross, and to have fellowship with God (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Friends, let’s live in this Truth, share this Good News with each other, and proclaim it in our celebrations this Easter.
